Rubber Additives Classification

Oct 26, 2018

Rubber auxiliaries play an important role in the composition of rubber formulations and are the primary factors affecting the function of rubber products.Rubber additives are generally classified into six categories.

The first type is a vulcanization system auxiliary, mainly containing a vulcanizing agent, a promoter and an activator.

Vulcanizing agents include:  sulfur, selenium, tellurium;  sulfur compounds;  organic peroxy compounds; steroids;  amines;  resins; metal oxides;  other vulcanizing agents.

Promoters include:  dithiocarbamate;  xanthate;  thiuram;  thiazoles;  sulfonamides; amine and aldehyde amine condensate;  oxime;  thiourea.

Activators include:  zinc oxide;  magnesium oxide;  stearic acid and the like.

The second category is protective system additives, mainly anti-aging agents and flame retardants. Anti-aging agents mainly include amines, phenols, heterocyclics, phosphites, and protective waxes.

The amines include:  naphthylamine system;  quinoline system;  diphenylamine system; p-phenylenediamine system.

The phenols include:  alkylated mononuclear phenol; alkylated dinuclear phenol;  alkylated polynuclear phenol. There are also heterocyclic and phosphite esters.

Protective waxes include: microcrystalline wax, ceresin wax and white wax.

The flame retardant includes:  bromine system;  chlorine system;  phosphorus system; inorganic material.

The third category is operating system auxiliaries, mainly plasticizers (softeners), dispersants, homogenizers, tackifiers, mold release agents and scorch inhibitors.

The fourth category is reinforced filler system additives, mainly carbon black, white carbon black, inorganic reinforcing agents and fillers, and organic reinforcing agents and fillers.

The fifth category is adhesive system auxiliaries, mainly including m--white-white system, cobalt salt adhesion promoter, triazine-based adhesive, impregnating adhesive and adhesive.

The sixth category is other additives, such as foaming agents, defoamers, colorants, fragrances, anti-fogging agents, termite-proofing agents, lubricants, mold release agents, and release cloth treatment.Agents, product surface modifiers, mold cleaners, etc.

Following the development of the rubber industry, the amount of rubber used has progressed year by year. In recent years, China's rubber auxiliaries have made great progress in the development and application, but there are still many shortcomings. Rubber additives must be developed in an environmentally friendly, efficient, multi-functional, low-cost direction. Rubber additives manufacturers should strengthen their use in the composition of rubber to keep up with the rapid development of the rubber industry.
